Our History
With nearly two centuries since being established in 1832, Gilbert Davies Solicitors has deep roots in Welshpool and the surrounding area.
The firm has occupied its current office since 1853 when Abraham Howell, Solicitor, bought the property of 18 Severn Street for £800. The office was the first purpose-built office of any kind to be built in the County of Montgomery.
Mr Howell took Mr Yearsley into partnership (their initials still appear on the stone porch). The firm began trading from its offices in Severn Street in approximately 1863.
Owen Gilbert-Davies joined the firm of Howell, Yearsley and Reade in 1911, as an articled clerk. He was succeeded by his son, Ithel, who joined the firm of Gilbert Davies and Roberts in 1958.
Mr E Beckwith Roberts joined the practice in 1936, becoming a partner in 1947.
The firm is now independently run by Louise Harding, Nerys Jones and Arwel Jones.
